What kind of onboard cruiseship jobs are available?

In the coming days, I will post the common positions available onboard most cruise ships.

Each listing will include a brief description so you can decide which position you are both interested in, and qualified for.

Remember what I said on the earlier blog, it is very important to know the correct name of the position for which you are applying.

What job on the ship do you want?

Greetings! As the weather turns cold for most of the US, Canada and Europe, this is the time to consider cruising the warm waters of Mexico, the Caribbean, Hawaii to name a few locales.

Traditionally, cruiselines don't hire during the month of December or early January, because of the cost of flying crew members at what is the most expensive time of the year to fly. So, now is the time to start thinking about what kind of job you want and be ready for the new year when changes start to happen.

Before you apply for a job, it is very important to know what the offical title of the position is called.

For example, Cruise Staff are the social hosts of all the events and activities onboard. But not all cruise lines use this title. Some cruise lines call this position, Cruise Staff, some call it Social Hosts, others call it Animators, Princess Cruises calls these positions Assistant and/or Junior Assistant Cruise Director's and others like Crystal Cruises, call it it Non-Performing Cruise Staff. It is very important to know the correct name of the position you wish to apply for, otherwise your inquiry with either be misdirected ot totally discarded.

Please remember that once you have been hired for a specific position and you are onboard, it is common sometimes, to be asked to perform other duties not generally associated with the position for which you were hired. Once onboard, you must be open to helping your Department Head in any way asked. Remember, you are there to provide passengers with a cruise vacation of a lifetime! A good rule of thumb is this saying - "yes it the answer, what is the question".
To get along, you have to get along!
